SNAP Federal Work Requirements Resources
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) includes work requirements for certain adults, commonly referred to as Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs). These rules typically limit how long someone can receive SNAP benefits if they are not working or participating in an approved work or training activity. Due to ongoing federal court litigation, New York State currently has an approved waiver that pauses the ABAWD time-limit requirement for all districts (Except for Saratoga County). The allows eligible individuals to continue receiving SNAP benefits without being subject to the ABAWD time limit.
Beginning March 1st, ABAWDs in all areas of New York State (Except Saratoga) will be required to meet SNAP work requirements in order to continue receiving benefits.
